Software leader TCS on Thursday said it would hire 25,000 people this year, a move that is likely to give a fillip to the country's IT recruitment scene which is seeing a slowdown since the collapse of Lehman Brothers last September.
"We have an employee strength of 1.45 lakh people and we want to add 25,000 more people this year," TCS Vice President (Head Global Government Industry Group) Tanmoy Chakrabarty said on the sidelines of a function in chandigarh.
Announcing its first quarter results TCS has said that it remained on track for graduate hiring programme in 2009-10.
Analysts said promising hiring plans of TCS comes as it after a big, long dull in the segment would reinvigorate IT recruitment scene. Domestic IT companies had applied brakes on fresh recruitment after their biggest market US slipped into recession following global financial turmoil.
Since Indian software companies earn a big chunk of their revenue from the US, recruitment was one of the first casualties of the global financial turmoil.
"Our revenue from government projects is small and we want to raise it to at least 10 per cent of our total revenue in the next three years," Chakrabarty said.
TCS also said it was hoping to implement the Centre's ambitious Rs 1,000-crore 'Passport Seva Project' at six pilot locations in October this year and will take this number to 77 by June 2010.
